The « Caviar Bump » stands as the most time-honored method for tasting caviar. It involves placing a small amount of caviar (3g to 5g) on the back of the hand, between the thumb and index finger. Then, you bring your hand to your lips to savor the exquisite eggs. This technique gently warms the grains through skin contact, enhancing their flavor while preventing any alteration from external tastes or the mingling of flavors from different caviar types using the same spoon.​

Historically, this straightforward and swift method was favored by caviar traders and ikrianchikis, a term used in Russia to describe caviar preparers. The phrase « À la royale » is believed to have originated with the Tsar's tasters, who were perpetually on the lookout for poison. While some today may regard this tasting method as too casual, for many it continues to be a cherished tradition, embodying the rich heritage of caviar tasting.​
