The Inspiring Journey

A bold vision

The tale of Madagascar caviar embarked on its journey in 2009.
Alexandre Guerrier, Christophe, and Delphyne Dabezies, three enterprising French entrepreneurs who had made Madagascar their home since the late '90s, aimed to broaden their ventures. With expertise in producing garments for the luxury and haute couture sectors globally, they ventured into an extraordinary human endeavor. They established Acipenser, their sturgeon farm, laying the foundation for the luxury brand Rova Caviar Madagascar. The farm is strategically split into two locations, known as the « land » and « lake » sites, situated in the commune of Ambatolaona, approximately a 1h30 drive from the capital, Antananarivo. The inception of the « land » site occurred in 2009, followed by the « lake » site in 2015.

The Siberian sturgeon (Baeri caviar) was the inaugural species to grace the farm in 2013.

The subsequent years marked significant introductions: Russian sturgeon (Ossetra caviar) in 2014, Beluga (Beluga caviar) and Iranian sturgeon (Caviar Iranien) in 2016.

2017 witnessed the debut of the « bare-bellied » sturgeon (Shipova caviar) and by 2018, the farm proudly achieved ISO 14001 Certification from AFNOR.

An emblematic milestone was reached in 2019 with the arrival of the Star Sturgeon (Sevruga) and a notable first production tallying up to 4.2 tons.

2021 heralded the inaugural production of Ossetra caviar. A decade was devoted to constructing the sturgeon farm and importing all the desired species, with another decade allowing each species to commence caviar production.

By 2029, the farm is projected to operate at full capacity, marking the culmination of a visionary quest towards excellence in caviar production.

Lake Mantasoa

A Sanctuary Preserved by Nature

As morning mists are gently dispersed by the first light of day, they unveil a verdant landscape embraced by pine and eucalyptus trees, mirrored across the vast water's surface.

The tranquil silence and serenity of this secluded haven are momentarily interrupted by the gentle rowing of a fisherman's pirogue and the distant quacking of humpback ducks—a signal that Lake Mantasoa, nestled in the highlands of Madagascar, is stirring to life.

Positioned at an elevation of 1,400 meters and located approximately 60 kilometers east of Antananarivo, Lake Mantasoa spans over 2,000 hectares, overlooking the village of Ambatolaona, some 15 kilometers downstream. This expansive lake, replenished exclusively by rainwater and untouched by pollution or industrial activity, boasts exceptionally pure and fresh waters. It's an idyllic environment inherently suited for the cultivation of sturgeon.

With the establishment of the Acipenser farm, thirty substantial structures have been erected on the lake, designed to nurture these magnificent fish and their valuable eggs under impeccably ecological conditions.
