A Commitment to Community Revitalization
the village of Ambatolaona
The establishment of Maison Rova Caviar Madagascar heralded a new era of economic rejuvenation for the village of Ambatolaona. Strategically positioned between the land site, just a short drive from the village center, and the lake site, located fifteen kilometers upstream, the Acipenser farm has become a significant source of employment. Remarkably, 80% of the farm's 300-strong workforce hails from the local community. Maison Rova's commitment to its employees extends beyond mere employment; it offers an ongoing training program facilitated by skilled instructors. This initiative allows the villagers to ascend within the aquaculture sector, gaining insights into various aspects of fish farming, caviar production, and marketing. Furthermore, the company's demand for raw materials and consumer goods has spurred the emergence of new businesses in Ambatolaona, contributing to the local economy.
Beyond occupational training, Rova Caviar Madagascar invests in comprehensive community welfare and personal development initiatives. These include full medical care, literacy classes, swimming lessons, and regular satisfaction surveys. The company also provides training in hygiene, safety, and first aid, alongside family planning courses. Environmental consciousness is fostered through energy conservation and waste recycling programs. Additionally, the provision of community gardens, organization of sports events, and arrangement of excursions enrich the lives of the village's residents, illustrating Rova Caviar's deep-rooted commitment to societal well-being and environmental stewardship.
In a spirit of collaboration, attentiveness to needs, environmental stewardship, and the betterment of daily life, Rova Caviar actively participates in financing projects aimed at community and ecological enhancement. These initiatives include repairing local roads, replenishing the fish population in Lake Mantasoa to bolster artisanal fishing—complemented by the donation of life jackets, embarking on reforestation efforts through tree planting, and facilitating access to clean water by installing standpipes and wells in Ambatolaona. Furthermore, Rova Caviar extends logistical and financial support to gendarmerie brigades dedicated to combating poaching and implements measures for accident prevention, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to community support and environmental conservation.
Empowering Communities Through Education
Rova Caviar Madagascar firmly believes in the interconnection between the growth of villages and the welfare of their residents with education. To foster lasting change, the company initiates and funds educational programs for schoolchildren. These programs, led by passionate employees, aim to instill an early awareness of environmental stewardship, gardening, waste reduction, water pollution, and recycling practices. In addition to these educational efforts, Rova Caviar collaborates with local village leaders to launch prevention and information campaigns focused on family planning, directly addressing the needs of the community. Furthermore, by donating sturgeon meat to schools and orphanages, the farm significantly contributes to improving the nutritional intake of numerous children.
Madagascar caviar, a product of luxury, plays a pivotal role in enhancing the livelihoods of many families, demonstrating the profound impact of sustainable luxury on community development.
Commitment to the Environment
A Genuine Endeavor
Since its inception in 2009, Rova Caviar Madagascar has been deeply committed to preserving nature and its surrounding biodiversity. The journey began with obtaining an environmental permit, accompanied by rigorous standards to maintain water cleanliness and meet specific physico-chemical parameters. This commitment extends to every facet of operation: from selecting environmentally friendly materials for construction to producing sturgeon feed from local agricultural resources. The farm harnesses solar energy to generate electricity and utilizes gravity-fed ponds on land to minimize energy use. Waste management practices emphasize recovery and recycling, while Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives further embody the farm's dedication to sustainability. At both the land and lake sites, meticulous efforts ensure that the environmental footprint of caviar farming remains minimal, reflecting Rova Caviar Madagascar's unwavering pledge to ecological stewardship.
A Commitment Practiced Daily
In Madagascar, where there are yet no companies dedicated to the reprocessing of waste and wastewater, Rova Caviar Madagascar has implemented an environmental policy within the farm to manage these challenges internally. Motivated by a responsibility to educate, the farm's goal is to cultivate awareness among the local population and neighboring communities about environmental preservation practices, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the lake's water which is crucial for the region. To monitor both the environmental impact and the natural state of the lake, the farm has conducted annual assessments of physicochemical parameters and bio-indicators. This practice, in partnership with Valéa Conseil, began in 2014, coinciding with the farm's initial activities on the lake.
This commitment to eco-responsibility was officially recognized through the achievement of the ISO 14001 version 2015 certification, awarded by the SOCOTEC group, a leading company in technical control and construction expertise.
Additionally, the Office National pour l'Environnement (ONE) plays a role in ensuring the farm's operations comply with environmental standards, safeguarding Acipenser against the impacts of unauthorized breeding facilities that could harm the lake's water quality and ecosystem.
